An important discovery was announced by archaeologists at the China Geological University, where they uncovered 250 dinosaur footprints in southwest China's Guizhou Province.
Sparse footprints were found on an area of about 350 square meters at the construction site of a factory in southwest China's Maotai town.
The footprints belonged to Sauropod dinosaurs in the early Jurassic period, where they believe to be the largest site of this species of dinosaurs found in China.
"It is rare to see the footprints of Sauropod from the early Jurassic period in China, and although some footprints were previously discovered in Sichuan, Guizhou and Chongqing provinces, they were severely eroded," said one researcher.
"The new discoveries have been well preserved and can help us understand the distribution and evolution of dinosaurs in the early Jurassic period.
The sauropod dinosaurs are large carnivorous dinosaurs with four feet, a long neck and tail, and are one of the largest animals on Earth.
